CLINICAL & OPERATIONAL CONTINUITY

EHR Downtime Solution for Reliable Patient Data Access

Play Button

Every healthcare organization needs a comprehensive business continuity plan for its EHR

Our EHR Downtime Solution, CareFinity, helps healthcare organizations maintain secure access to patient records, schedules, documents, images, and clinical notes during planned and unplanned EHR outages.

Relying on paper processes during severe weather events, software transitions, system upgrades, conversions, or network downtime can disrupt operations and create risks for patient care.
Without access to critical patient information, it becomes difficult to maintain clinical workflows and operational efficiency across a clinic, medical group, or health system. Even planned maintenance windows and EHR conversions require reliable access to a comprehensive patient record.
EHR Downtime strengthens business continuity by providing access to essential patient information when EHR systems are unavailable, helping healthcare organizations reduce operational disruption, protect revenue, and support continuity of care during downtime events.

EHR Downtime is a versatile application that brings the data to your fingertips with web views and allows you to document visit notes. Our browser-based application allows clinicians, schedulers, and administrative staff to securely access stored patient information from any device – including mobile devices – whenever and wherever they need it.

How CareFinity Downtime Works for Your EHR

Every 15 to 30 minutes, CareFinity copies all changes made to patient data in your EHR to one or more “clone” servers.

If the EHR is unavailable, users simply click on the CareFinity icon from their desktop or mobile device, log in, and view their current appointment schedule or patient search screen.

Simply choose a patient from the schedule or search for the desired patient, and CareFinity will deliver all the Problems, Allergies, Medications, Visits, Labs, Orders, Documents, Images, Vitals, and Clinical information you need.

Document Visits During EHR Downtime

Document patient visits in real time while your EHR is unavailable. Once the EHR is restored, completed notes are automatically added to the patient’s chart, helping maintain a complete and accurate clinical record.

EHR Downtime

EHR Downtime Support for Single-Location Healthcare Organizations

Patient data is securely replicated from your EHR at regular intervals and remains accessible during system outages. Whether hosted on-site or in a secure off-site environment, the solution provides reliable access to patient records through desktop and mobile devices.

Because the application remains available even when the EHR is down, providers can continue seeing patients with access to chart history and critical clinical information.

EHR Downtime Support for Remote Clinics and Hosted EHRs

Maintain access to patient records even when connectivity to your primary EHR is disrupted. Remote clinics can securely access a local copy of patient data during outages, allowing providers to continue seeing patients without interruption. This approach is also ideal for hosted EHR environments, ensuring access to critical patient information when internet or EHR connectivity is unavailable.

Flexible Configuration to Solve Your Unique Downtime Worries

Each clinic has its own downtime concerns. If a third party hosts your EHR, you may be concerned about your internet connection. If your EHR is housed in your own data center, then hardware failure or natural disasters may worry you. If you have multiple locations, you may be worried about outages when your main EHR site is unreachable.

Our CareFinity EHR Downtime solution can be configured to handle all these concerns and any others you may have. We will work with you to configure the best solution for your unique needs.
